Van Newby, PhD
Vice President & CFO
Van Newby brings to the EduMetrics Institute expertise in economics, quantitative analysis, measurement theory, business management and international finance. Having been with EduMetrics since its formation in 2000, Van has created the organization's financial projections, and has managed the organization's budget, payroll, and taxes, conducted research on measurement theory and return on investment to training, supervised product dissemination and sales, and has co-authored and assisted in the publication of many scholarly works.
For almost twenty years Van has been a part of learning and measurement research in both the academic and business worlds. Van has taught at Boston College and University College Cork in Ireland, and currently teaches as Brigham Young University. He also served for two years as acting president and CEO of Alpine Media Corporation in Orem, Utah (recently renamed Alpine Testing Solutions), and there remained for another year as CFO. Van has been a leader in every area of his career, from being one of the first eleven professors at Brigham Young University to teach courses on the web, to analyzing learning research in post doctoral work, to creating a system for operational efficiency at Alpine Media.
Van received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at Brigham Young University where he concentrated on operations research, statistics and numerical analysis, and minored in Japanese. He then received his Doctorate in Economics, emphasizing in international economics and finance, at Boston College. He and his wife Bethanie reside in Orem, Utah, and are the proud parents of five children.
