Privacy Policy: EduMetrics' Commitment to You

Private signThe Edumetrics Institute, a non-profit organization emphasizing the importance of using measurement to improve educational processes and increase intellectual development of people everywhere, is dedicated to protecting the safety and privacy of all visitors to our web site and users of our products. As you begin exploring, we'd like to review the steps we have taken to ensure that on-line visitors of all ages have a safe, enjoyable experience.

While our offerings are generally tailored toward an older audience, we understand that some children may use PuzzleQuest or our other products. We encourage parents to become actively involved in their child’s online experiences. In keeping with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), as well as the privacy of all our users, we have created this privacy policy to demonstrate our commitment to our users’ privacy and to explain our information gathering practices.

Personally Identifiable Information

The PuzzleQuest game and our other software and games are able to improve the intellectual skills of those who use them. In order to measure the progress of participants in these games, we must collect information. Because some of this information is personal, we take extreme care to safeguard the identity of visitors to our site and users of our products, and maintain our privacy standards in accordance with COPPA in the case of children 13 years of age and younger. The PuzzleQuest game communicates via the Internet with our central server to help us better calibrate the difficulty of the puzzles in the game and find optimal puzzle sequencing for your own individualized learning. The information PuzzleQuest sends to the server contains no personally identifying information, but only information regarding the puzzles you complete and your character’s location within the realms of the game. This information is kept for your convenience and to provide a custom-tailored way to help you improve your thinking abilities.

We respect the privacy of children, and do not collect any more personal information than reasonably necessary to enable them to participate in our online activities. We do not actively solicit, request, or re-use information from visitors, except in the following instances:

.A computer screen reading http:

Age and Gender: In order to accurately measure players’ progress through our games and to be more effective in improving their thinking skills, we must obtain some basic information from participants, especially their age and gender. We collect this information for the following purposes:

1. To allow adults and children to see their intellectual development on a customized scale, tailored to their age and needs, and

2. To allow us to aggregate collected information for statistical research in intellectual development and improved measurement for our users, according to the mission of the EduMetrics Institute.

Internet Protocol Addresses (IP Address): An IP address is a number assigned to your computer or router that allows you to communicate on the Internet. When you access the EduMetrics website or use EduMetrics products, our computer systems identify your computer by its IP address. The EduMetrics Institute collects IP addresses for system administration and to audit the use of our site and products. When visitors request pages from EduMetrics’ sites, our servers log your computer’s IP address. While every visitor's session on our web page is logged, every effort is made on our part to make sure that this address is not linked to any other identifying information. As a part of ensuring your security and privacy, we cryptographically transform all personally identifying information transmitted in this manner so that it is unreadable and inaccessible—even for us.

We make new friends with our customers and associates by safeguarding their personal information.

Information Sharing

We do not share personally identifying information collected at this site with third parties, except:

  • To provide a product or service you request;
  • To respond to subpoenas, court orders or legal process, if called upon to do so in due course of law;
  • To protect the security of our website and game service if the EduMetrics Institute finds your actions while using our services violate the Terms of Use for our web site or specific products.

Correspondence

Should you choose to submit personally identifying information to us, such as your name or email address, we may use that information to contact you periodically. Our monthly newsletter, Learn Thinking, is geared toward adults and explains current happenings and news at the EduMetrics Institute. We may contact you at other times with additional event news or special offers. You may unsubscribe from our email list at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link within our correspondence. Your contact information is held confidential. If we receive email correspondence from someone we know to be under protection of COPPA (a child under 13 years of age), we will use the email address to respond to correspondence, then immediately delete the information. We will never sell or otherwise distribute your email address or other submitted information to any third party.

Parental Access to Information

We discourage PuzzleQuest players from giving their real name or other personally identifying information to anyone online. Because we have no readable records of information submitted to the EduMetrics Institute through our software, we cannot provide records of personal information we have on file. As a parent or legal guardian, you may request that certain information we have in our archives about your child be changed or deleted. To do so, please contact us using one of the methods described below.
